After Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt earlier this week, plenty of speculations regarding the reasons behind the split began to surface. One rumor was that Jolie had discovered that her husband was having an affair with Allied co-star Marion Cotillard.
The very private French actress responded to the rumors in an Instagram post, with all the dignity and grace she is known for.
“This situation is spiraling and affecting people I love”

“This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into,” the 40-year-old actress wrote. “I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up.”
Cotillard and her long-time partner, French actor and director Guillaume Canet, knew each other as friends for over a decade before they started to pursue a romantic relationship in 2007. They have a 5-year-old son, Marcel, and are expecting a second child, as Cotillard revealed in her post.
“Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting,” she said. “He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.”

The actress went on to address the media and those who were quick to jump to conclusions after the rumors first came out.

“Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing,” she wrote. “And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.”
To conclude her post, she gave Jolie and Pitt some kind words, writing, “Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment.”
