Mother sacrifices her own life so her baby could live

10 Oct, 2017
Mother sacrifices her own life so her baby could live

Her husband shares, "When our daughter gets old enough, I'll tell her the story about her brave mommy."

Mother Carrie DeKlyen faced a tough decision: sacrifice her own life in order to save her unborn child, or terminate her pregnancy in order for her to live.

“We’re keeping it”

During her pregnancy, Carrie was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer. Doctors recommended chemotherapy treatments in order to fight the disease, but it also meant that she had to terminate her pregnancy.

Carrie’s husband, Nick, told his wife about the difficult decision. Carrie then told him, “We’re keeping it.”

And on September 6, 2017, Carrie and Nick’s 6th baby was born, named “Life Lynn”.

Sadly, a day after giving birth to Life Lynn, doctors removed Carrie’s breathing and food tubes. She passed away surrounded by her family.

“It’s in God’s hands now”

Nick shares that his daughter’s birth “meant that this wasn’t all for nothing, my wife will pass on and my baby will live.”

“We stayed by her until she took her last breath. It’s in God’s hands now,” he adds.

He goes on to say, “When our daughter gets old enough, I’ll tell her the story about her brave mommy. I’ll tell her that God gave her the gift of life with an awesome plan in mind and we’re not sure why mommy had to be sick and pass away to do so, but it’s all a special plan and we must trust it.”
