Actor Dwayne Johnson reveals family coronavirus battle, urges everyone to 'Stay disciplined'

3 min read

Pro-wrestler turned Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson shared that his entire family tested positive for coronavirus in recent weeks and has since made a full recovery.

In a video uploaded on Instagram (3 Sep), the actor who is also known as “The Rock”, shared that he, his wife Lauren Hashian, and two young daughters had caught the virus from “very close family friends” who had no idea how they got infected.

“They, like us, have been incredibly disciplined,” the actor noted when it came to taking the necessary safety precautions for coronavirus.

It is said that Johnson did not disclose his family’s condition prior to this announcement.

“This has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family,” said the father of Jasmine Johnson, 5, and Tiana Gia Johnson, 2.

“I wish it was only me who tested positive. But it wasn’t— it was my entire family, so this one was a real kick in the gut,” he added.

In the 11-minute video, the 48-year-old said that both his daughters Jasmine and Tiana developed mild symptoms and bounced back after “a little sore throat the first couple of days”.

He and his wife, however, were of a different story as they “had a rough go”.

“But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good. We are on the other end of it,” the Jumanji actor said. “We are no longer contagious, and we are, thank God, we are healthy.”

The family has also been counting their blessings since their ordeal.

“We are counting our blessings right now because we’re well aware that it isn’t always the case that you get on the other end of COVID-19 stronger and healthier,” said Johnson.

Having had his fair share of challenges in the past, the wellness advocate shared: “testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries or being evicted or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times”.

“The reason why I feel this is different is because my number one priority is to always protect my family and protect my children, my loved ones,” he added.

As such, the actor urged his 196 million fans on Instagram to “stay disciplined” and take all the necessary precautions to fight the deadly virus.

His advice to preventing the spread of COVID-19 includes exercising extreme caution when meeting with friends or family and adhere to measures such as putting on a mask.

“Protect your family. Be strict about having people over your house or gatherings,” he wrote in his post.

Stay disciplined. Boost your immune system. Commit to wellness. Wear your mask. Protect your family. Be strict about having people over your house or gatherings. Stay positive. And care for your fellow human beings. Stay healthy, my friends. DJ 🖤 #controlthecontrollables
