Filipino Women say "Yes!" to Public Breastfeeding

Filipino Women say "Yes!" to Public Breastfeeding

In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (Aug. 1-7, 2014), we raffled off a Chloé box set containing 1 Eau de Parfum (5ml), 1 Body Lotion (100ml) and 1 Natural Spray (75ml).

To join the raffle, readers were asked to share whether or not they believed that mothers should be allowed to breastfeed in public. Not surprisingly, everyone answered with a "YES!".

Here's a compilation of our readers' top reasons why a mother should be allowed to breastfeed anytime, anywhere. Keep clicking to find out who the lucky mommy winner is!

"Breastfeeding was created to become a part of nature's developments. The freedom for moms to nurture their children should be given the utmost priority. Mothers should not be ashamed of this, for this is an act of pure love for her child. Love should never be hindered, may be it in private places or in public.

"If society can accept inappropriate Public Displays of Affection, why can't it stop passing judgment towards hardworking mothers who sacrifice their comfort and convenience to support a precious life. This, for me, is one brave act of motherhood. It should in fact be celebrated, not condemned to a corner." -- Alyzza

"Moms like me should have the freedom to breastfeed our babies anytime, anywhere because thru breastfeeding, we feed our little ones with antibodies which aren't found in formula milks. These antibodies will help protect our babies against sickness and will ensure that they are getting enough nutrients from his/her mom." -- Cherie

"Mothers should have the freedom to breastfeed anywhere. As a mother of two, I have the right to breastfeed anywhere or any public place for feeding my child will be no more stressful. There is nothing more precious than being able to provide your baby with the healthiest liquid while held in the most nurturing embrace." -- Chie

"It is our right and our children's right to be able to feed them and for them to be fed respectively. Honestly, I really don't care what other people might say as long as I am fulfilling my responsibility to my child, and that is to provide him with his much needed resources to live.

"I am also thankful to the different establishments because they took into consideration the needs of breastfeeding moms like me by making a space devoted to breastfeeding. Also when in public and I need to breastfeed, I always have proper garment with me to veer away from malicious minds and those of little understanding." -- Khrishia

"Mothers should have the freedom to breastfeed anywhere - without being judged or shooed away. Feeding a hungry baby is a must because eating/feeding is a necessity. It's also a way for the mother and child to bond. Thankfully, there are places these days where moms can breastfeed their babies, and there are also appropriate clothing for breastfeeding moms." -- Kristine

"Breastfeeding in public is NORMAL. It’s like when you are thirsty you drink, when you are hungry you eat. You do not eat or drink inside the toilet. And you do not want to drink or eat with a blanket covering you.

"I breastfeed my son whenever he is hungry, anytime and anywhere that is convenient for us. We do it in the jeepney, train, airplane or even while doing the grocery and I don’t care! Breastfeeding in public is a right." -- Mary Jane

Maude Maxine Rolle-Hipolito

"Moms should have the freedom to breastfeed in public because there's nothing more natural than an offspring getting his primary source of nutrition from his mother. While most establishments these days provide nursing rooms, there really are times when our little ones get so hungry that they can't wait 'til mom gets to her private space.

"So I'd rather sit on the nearest bench and breastfeed quietly rather than walk across the mall with a wailing baby. People who think it's not a pleasant sight are free to close their eyes, anyway." -- Maude

"I am a mother of two kids. I breastfed my eldest (2 yrs and 3 months) and now my 2nd child is is turning 2 yrs old and am exclusively breastfeeding him. I have my freedom to breastfeed my child in public because I care for my baby and don't mind other people seeing me breastfeeding in an open place." -- Vicenta

"Every woman ought to have the freedom to breastfeed, both in public and at work. Awareness is so vital. Some people don’t realize just how wonderful breastfeeding is and the mothers who choose it for their children are changing the world one baby at a time.

"I don’t believe we are no match for the marketing specialists of formula companies. We have a product that’s way better than anything they produce. It’s free and it’s perfect. But we need to act on spreading the word, one mother at a time, in our own little way and in whichever corner of the world we are." -- Anne
