Losing a child is definitely one of the most painful things a woman can go through. Though these celebrity moms are in an industry that’s meant to bring joy and entertainment, they are not immune to sad times in life.
If you’re a mom who has lost a child, you can find inspiration in these strong moms who, despite the pain, overcame it all and now happily raising their little rainbow babies.
The blogger/entrepreneur/musician announced she was pregnant with twins in October 2017. She gave birth in February 2018, but sadly lost her baby girl, while her baby boy had to be confined in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in critical condition.
Despite this tragic experience, Saab wrote in her blog that she remained hopeful.
“We have encountered so many heroes and kind people,” wrote the first-time mom.
How did she and husband Jim Bacarro recover?
“We are taking it one day at a time, focusing on all the good things we are blessed with,” she continued. “I am still alive, I have a strong and loving husband, and God has shown us so many miracles through our little boy.”
Actress Heart Evangelista happily announced her twin pregnancy on Mother’s day, but later shared that she lost one of her babies.
She shared the sad news on Instagram, along with an ultrasound of her babies, writing how one of the embryos was “smaller and behind in terms of development.”
“Our hearts were heavy at the thought but we knew we had to focus on the good,” she wrote.
But instead of focusing on who they lost, she and husband Senator Chiz Escudero remained optimistic about it.
“We now have a little angel up there and I trust that God is with us on this beautiful journey. I have to thank my wonderful husband who really has been my partner through it all,” she wrote on Instagram.
After two miscarriages in 2015, one of which involved triplets, Mariel finally welcomed her first baby a year later.
“Totoo talaga ‘yung sinasabi nila na everything happens in God’s time,” she said on the afternoon variety program, It’s Showtime, back in 2016, shortly after she announced her pregnancy.
She and husband Robin Padilla are enjoying being a mom and dad to their rainbow baby, Isabella, who is turning two in November of this year.
Comedic actress Pokwang also went through a dark time in her life, when she suffered a miscarriage. But she chose to focus on the bright side of life.
“May mas magandang plan si God na mas matibay,” said the celebrity mom in a past interview. She credits husband Lee O’Brien for helping her overcome the difficulties of losing their baby.
In January 2018, her prayers were answered as she welcomed her second daughter, Malia.
Pokwang also has a 21-year-old daughter named Ria Mae from a previous relationship.
A few days after sharing that she and sister Paula Peralejo were expecting at the same time, host/actress Rica Peralejo found out that she miscarried during her second pregnancy, as her baby no longer had a heartbeat.
“The long explanation for the cause is that it is most probably a developmental problem. An abnormality with the baby that is not compatible with life so it didn’t allow my baby to progress any further,” she explained in her blog, adding how there was nothing she nor the doctors could have done to prevent it.
“I think I have a long way to go to heal. Right now I can already feel fear seeping into my bones…” she confessed.
But through her faith and the support of family, friends, and churchmates she and husband pastor Joe Bonifacio made it through. They have a 4-year-old son named Philip Nathaniel.
Actress Tanya Garcia lost her third baby due to miscarriage back in 2013. She and husband Mark Lapid have now been together for eight years and have three daughters—-Micsha Amidala, Matilda Anika, and Madeleine Ariana.
Throughout the tough time, Tanya was thankful her husband Mark was there to support her.
“Siya ‘yung rock ko. Kasi talagang nandiyan siya. Kasi parang nakakabaliw ‘yun, ‘di ba?” she told GMA Network. “So parang siya ‘yung talagang nagsasabi sa’kin na, we have two healthy daughters, go on, life must go on.”
In 2017, after announcing she was pregnant with her first child with husband Sean Fariñas Karel revealed that she suffered back-to-back early miscarriages.
In a Facebook post, she confessed that she wasn’t expecting that what she went through was “every mother’s nightmare” and that she never thought it “would happen to her.” This was because she was living a healthy lifestyle.
But despite this, she chose to hold on to her faith and tried to encourage other moms who are going through the same thing.
“You are not alone. If you are going through this now, YOU will be okay and better things are coming your way, all in God’s plan, all in God’s time,” she recalls, “Titibay tayo dito.”
Karel has two kids,Keiley and Kyler, from a previous relationship.
The singer/actress revealed that she suffered a miscarriage back in 2010 before her wedding with singer Ogie Alcasid.
Despite the heartbreaking tragedy, some good came out of it, because it brought her closer to God. During this time, she also went through a period of depression. But thankfully, because of her faith, she overcame it.
Then a year after she married fellow singer Ogie Alcasid in 2011, she gave birth to her first baby, Nate.
Before she gave birth to her first baby Miggy with husband, Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda, Neri suffered a miscarriage a year earlier. In 2015, she shared a post to thank her husband for being there for her.
“Sobrang nahirapan akong tanggapin na nawalan tayo ng baby. Masakit. Sobrang sakit. Pero unti unting tinanggap ko na wala na siya. Mahirap, pero kailangan. Love is making the best of what life throws at you,” wrote the mom.
Neri and Chito tied the knot in 2014.

After they welcomed two little girls, Patrice and Michelle, Patrick Garcia and wife Nikka lost their third baby in March 2017. In an emotional post, the mom blogger recounted how she miscarried and she took time to thank those who supported them as a couple during the trying time.
But their sadness soon turned to joy when, in December of that same year, they welcomed another baby girl!
Now they’re proud parents to their tres Marias Michelle, Patrice, and Pia.
Coping with The Loss of a Child
When someone loses a child, others try to offer their comfort. They shower the grieving with words of reassurance—“you’ll have another” or “you’re still young” are some of the most common ones. Though well intentioned, there is no way our words can heal the pain it’s caused.
Dr. Janet Jaffe, the director of San Diego, California’s Center for Reproductive Psychology, tells SELF that it’s “not just the loss of the pregnancy that’s saddening. It’s the loss of the dream of having a family.”
Women who suffer miscarriage can even blame themselves, their bodies, for not being enough to keep their baby safe. The grief can be so overwhelming, especially when there is a lack of support from doctors, family, and friends.
Even with a support system rallying around them, they ultimately have to go through the heartbreak alone.
But like these celebrity moms showed, women grieve and recover in their own way and at their own pace.
