Model and celebrity mum-of-two Chrissy Teigen announced Thursday (1 October) that she and her husband, singer John Legend, have lost their child just days following being admitted to the hospital due to pregnancy complications.
It’s unclear whether the baby was stillborn or died shortly after birth.

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions,” Teigen wrote on her verified social media accounts. “It just wasn’t enough.”
Teigen also shared that unlike her first two pregnancies where the couple waited to name the baby until after delivering, they had already begun calling “the little guy in my belly” Jack.

“He will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
The 34-year-old had earlier said that she was about halfway through her pregnancy. The couple first revealed that they were expecting their third child in a music video for Legend’s song “Wild.” in the August music video for Legend’s “Wild,” where Legend is seen embracing his wife from behind, as she cradles her small baby bump.
“High risk” Pregnancy
Prior to this, Teigen shared about how her third pregnancy was considered “high risk” following previous complications with their two children—daughter Luna, 4, and son Miles, 2. The couple has said both children were conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF). Meanwhile, this pregnancy happened naturally, which Teigen said she didn’t think was possible for her.
In a CNN report, Teigen said that her third pregnancy made her feel “eggshelly” compared to the “untouchable and safe” feeling Teigen had from IVF.
Two weeks ago, Teigen revealed that she had been on bed rest and bleeding for “a little less than a month.” Subsequently, on Sunday (27 October), she posted on Instagram that she had been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center because of excessive bleeding from her placenta which she said was “really, really weak.”
“Darkest of Days”
Calling it “the darkest of days,” the couple said, “we are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.”
In a following post on Twitter, Teigen said, “Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real. (sic)”

Legend, meanwhile, wrote on Twitter, “We love you, Jack,” followed by five black hearts.
The couple also thanked her fans for their support.
“Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers. We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you,” the statement said. “We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience,” it continued.
“But everyday can’t be full of sunshine. On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it. (sic)”
