Bureau of Internal Revenue Philippines (BIR) is issuing the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) for the employees, the professional self-employed or freelancers, and for corporations in the private and public sectors.

What is a TIN number or TIN Card?

Each of us Filipinos has a responsibility to our country. One of our law-stated responsibilities is to pay our income taxes or tax deducted or subtracted from our wages, salaries, and profits from our businesses or work.

What is a Tax Identification Number Philippines?

The Taxpayer Identification Number (Philippines) is an identifying number to use for paying our taxes. While TIN card is an identification card or ID that is proof of your legibility as a taxpayer. Similar to what is stated above, TIN is accepted as a valid ID that can be used for any government transactions.

The TIN ID or Card is a type of identification card that has your full name, address, birth date, photo, signature, and card issue date of a cardholder.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is issuing this card for free. It is made of yellowish paper which is thin cardboard with the BIR logo on it.

It does not expire, which means, that it is valid until you want or need to renew it. Especially, when the information on the card is already ineligible.

How to get TIN ID online?

You may secure your TIN ID or number online especially when you don’t have much time to secure it from BIR RDO. For you to get or apply for a TIN number online, the government thought of the BIR eRegistration System.

This is only applicable to those who have not had any TIN ID yet. At this time, online registration for TIN ID is only for those who are self-employed. Employees securing their TIN ID will not be able to register online yet.

1. Search for and go to the eRegistration website: https://ereg.bir.gov.ph/ereg/welcome.doereg.bir.gov.ph or efps.bir.gov.ph

2. Fill out the form online requiring the taxpayer’s basic information. Reminder: be careful in filling in the details to complete the whole form.

3. Wait for the email confirmation from BIR. If you can not access it in your inbox, you may check your spam messages. Remember that you will need to pay the registration fee amounting to P 500.00, especially if you are a single proprietor or a professional.

BIR TIN ID requirements for first-timers: How to get a TIN ID number?

These are the requirements and procedures for securing a TIN ID number and for you to register at BIR:

  1. BIR Form 1901 — it is the application for the self-employed and mixed-income individual, estate, or trust
  2. the BIR Form 1902 — the application for those individuals with the intention of gaining profit from their own income and for non-resident citizens or overseas contract workers or seamen who gain profit from foreign-sourced income
  3. BIR Form 1903 — it is the application for corporations or partnerships (taxable or non-taxable), including here are the GAIs and LGUs
  4. the BIR Form 1904 — the application for one-time taxpayers and for individuals registered under the EO 98

Documents and requirements for TIN ID

For those who are self-employed and mixed-income individuals (professionals or sole proprietors)

  1. BIR Form 1902 – this application is for the individuals gaining funds from their own compensation income (for local and alien employees)
  2. Any identifications issued by the government (e.g. birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, community tax certificate) with your full name, address, and birth date
  3. Marriage contract if applicable or married
  4. for alien employees – passport
  5. Working permit or photocopy of duly received application for an alien employment permit (AEP) issued from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)

For those employees who will use the eREG System, the requirements for TIN ID above are also needed.

Steps

  1. Fill out the BIR Form 1902 and submit it with the other documents and requirements for the employer.
  2. Then, the employer shall complete filling out what they need to write on or answer.
  3. Submit the BIR Form 1902 to the Revenue District Office (RDO) where they have jurisdictions where you are currently employed.

Individuals Earning Purely Compensation Income

  • PSA (NSO) Birth certificate
  • Valid at acceptable IDs, Company ID, or Certificate of Employment

For One Time Taxpayers (No Prior TIN)

  • PSA (NSO) Birth Certificate
  • Deed of Sale, if applicable
  • Deed of Donation, if applicable

Partnerships/Corporations

  • Certificate of Registration from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Articles of incorporation/partnership
  • Mayor’s Permit

Non-Resident Citizens

Payor of Final Tax on Winnings

Vehicle Registrant

OCWs/Seamen Earning Purely Foreign-Sourced Income

  • BIR Form 1904 – Application for Registration for One-Time Taxpayer and Person Registering under E.O. 98
  • PSA (NSO) Birth Certificate
  • Employment Contract

Self-employed Mixed Income Individuals

  • BIR Form No. 1901 version 2018

  • Receipt of registration fee and DST or proof of Payment of Annual Registration.

How to secure a TIN ID if you already have a TIN number?

These are the steps and processes on how to secure a TIN ID if you already have a tin number.

Visit or go to the RDO or Revenue District office where you are registered. If you are an employee with an issued TIN from your employer. You may now directly go to the RDO to apply for a TIN card.

Then, you will only need to present one (1) valid ID issued by the government. In addition, you will also need to give the RDO your TIN number for TIN ID verification before issuing you a TIN ID.

If you could not personally get the TIN ID because of reasons such as a conflict of schedule in work, your authorized representative with a letter of your authorization may get it for you.

Your representative might also need a special power of attorney (SPA) so that they may get your TIN ID.

This can be also the process for self-employed individuals that want to secure a TIN ID card with a TIN number already.

How to avail TIN ID if you are unemployed?

If you are an unemployed individual or a student, you also have the right to secure a TIN ID. All you need to do is submit all the tin id requirements for unemployed individual. According to Executive Order No. 98, if you are a student aging from 18 years old and above, or if you are unemployed, you may get a TIN ID. You might need to use it as an essential requirement for any government transaction.

Then, how to get a TIN ID if you are unemployed?

Here are the TIN ID requirement for unemployed individuals and students:

  1. Any documents containing your identification and is an issuance of the authorized government body. Example:
  2. Passport is required if you are a non-resident alien
  3. You may also need the marriage contract if you are a female, married, and have adopted your husband’s surname in your name.

Then, if ever you already have these TIN ID  requirements for unemployed and students, you may now begin with the other processes.

First, fill out the BIR Form 1904 and bring your TIN ID requirements to the RDO of the municipality from where you are residing. You are not legible to process TIN from the other cities.

Then, make sure that you will submit your requirements to authorized personnel in your RDO. After processing your application, kindly wait for your scheduled date of TIN ID claim.

Are you processing your requirements for employment and are wondering what are the TIN ID requirements for employment?

For those employed individuals and newly hired an employer, usually, the HR department will process your TIN application.

You will just need to accomplish or fill out the BIR Form 1902 and submit your TIN ID requirements mentioned above to HR. The HR will process your application and you may kindly wait for the issuance of your TIN card for a few days.

If ever HR assigned you to individually process your own application, you may go directly to the RDO from where your company is registered and submit there all your requirements. Kindly wait for a few hours and they will process your ID within the day.

What should you do when you lost, broke, or failed to update your TIN ID?

If you lost or broke your TIN ID, or if you haven’t updated the address for example. Or for recently married women planning to change their surnames. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. You will need the following requirements for a TIN ID card replacement. These are the following:

    • Accomplished BIR Form 1905 (Application for Registration Information Update/Correction/Cancellation)
    • Accomplished BIR Form 0605 (Payment Form)
    • If TIN card is lostNotarized Affidavit of Loss (You can draft your own affidavit or get one from a notary public near you. It usually costs Php 150 to Php 300+)
    • If TIN card is damaged: Old TIN card (both original and photocopy)
    • For married women: Marriage certificate and old TIN card (both original and photocopy)
  2. How much is the TIN card replacement fee?

    • It will cost Php 100.00, and it is for processing.
  3. Steps in a TIN card replacement application

    • Go to the RDO from where you have registered or from where your you claimed your TIN.
    • Answer the BIR Form 1905
    • Give all the information needed
    • Go to the COR update window to submit your accomplished BIR Form 1905 with the other requirements.
    • Pay through the authorized bank of RDO for the TIN card fee. Request for a payment slip from the bank. They will issue you a receipt.
    • Go back to the RDO to submit the receipt and machine-validated BIR Form 0605 to the COR Update window. You might need to surrender your original copy of your ID or photocopy of your TIN card, if it has damages or if you need to change your name.
    • Finally, you may claim your TIN ID card after the process or it may take about 5 days to claim.

Tips for securing your TIN ID number

Remember, avoid and do not process your TIN ID to fixers. Aside from it being illegal, you might get a fake TIN ID or scam. Scammers can also predate applicants online.

Unfortunately, TIN Card is an easy-to-copy card and if you received a fake TIN card from a fixer, you may never be able to use it. Your transaction fee will be useless.

There are also fixers who might ask for higher fees from the applicants. However, getting a TIN card is free.

BIR also gave warnings about scammers and fixers issuing fake ID numbers and cards.

It will also be better if you will personally claim and process your TIN ID because you will need it, too. Especially when you have your own business or if you are currently working.

Your preference of an authorized representative may claim or get your TIN Card. Your representative needs to remember that they need to bring the notarized Special Power of Attorney or SPA. Also, they need to bring at least two (2) government-issued ID.
