How to Earn Money as a Kid: 5 Fun Business Ideas

Being money-smart is especially important now that times are tough and finding work that is both meaningful and financially-rewarding can be challenging. Teaching your kids that they can also earn by being in business can help them understand that money doesn’t grow on trees and that they have to work hard in order to earn it.

There are numerous simple small business ideas for your kids to choose from. Help them come up with possible products or services by surveying the needs of your community. You can also get business ideas from your child’s natural abilities. To inspire your kids to get started, we have listed 5 small business ideas from successful kiddiepreneurs.
Tutor Other Kids

Having no start-up capital did not faze Millie Manahan’s 11-year-old daughter, Jersey Denise from venturing into business. This fifth grade honor student capitalized on her brains by putting up a tutoring service for her classmates.

Being the Kid Executive Officer of her business, Jersey charges P30.00/hour to tutor her classmates in either Math, English or Filipino. Millie is her assistant, who helps her create effective lesson plans and accompanies her to the bank where she saves most of her earnings.

Earn P4,000.00 in one month from a capital of only P800.00! Put up a snack bar similar to what nine-year-old Luis Emmanuel did last summer. Luis got the idea from his parents’ love for cooking. His mom, Lourdes Vindollo-Labii, is in the food business herself.

The business became a great bonding activity for them. Lourdes did the cooking and Luis did all the selling himself. He sold squid balls, kikiam, sago’t gulaman, mais con yelo, turon and more. Half of his earnings went to his savings and the other half to purchase new Legos.
Create Loom Band Accessories

Business ideas can come from trends such as creating loom band accessories. What first started as a hobby for nine-year-old Luisa Janeane became a full-blown business when she started joining bazaars.

Her business grew, prompting mommy Katherine Cabezon, to create an online store via Facebook. Lujean makes all the accessories while Katherine helps in costing, packaging and marketing. Starting a looming business will cost only a few hundred pesos. However, joining the bazaar cost them P6,000.00, which includes costs of purchasing looming kits for sale as well as booth expenses.
Sell one-of-a-kind Piggy Banks

Maxine (13), Francine (10) and Carrine (7) Juan created Kiddie Entrep Banks, which are piggy banks with separate slots for Save, Invest, Donate and Spend. Their dad, Rommel Juan, an entrepreneur himself, says these banks "hope to teach kids that there are more uses for money aside from just spending and to teach them how to handle their finances at an early age”.

The girls join bazaars such as the Kiddopreneur, wherein they have consistently won the Best in Service award in three separate occasions. On average, they earn P20,000 per bazaar. Part of it goes to their bank accounts but they have also donated their earnings from the last bazaar to Yolanda victims.

Charisse Santillan Tinio noticed that her son Sancho was a good painter when he started painting using acrylic medium at three years old. Instead of selling the paintings though, they created useful merchandise out of them.

Sancho’s paintings have been reproduced into mouse pads, aprons, notebooks, note cards, and more, which he sells in bazaars such as the Kiddopreneur. Charisse guides him in pricing and marketing the products. Sancho earns an average of P10,000.00 per bazaar from a capital of P15,000.00, which already includes booth expenses.
