“Technology makes our life easier and faster.” That is the simple definition of technology for me. And when it comes to communication, technology is a great help.
Technology is such a big help to everyone especially in our times today. Unlike before we’re just connecting via snail mail or written letters that take months to reach someone we love. Now it’s very easy because of technology, we can connect to them right away in just a second.
Our love story that started on Facebook
And speaking of technology and connection, I have a story to tell. It is a love story to be specific.
We were childhood friends and he used to be my crush back in 4th grade. No one knows about it because I don’t want to be teased by my friends’ kaya I keep it a secret. I would admire him from a distance because of his personality, music skills, and of course, his humor.
We have separate lives growing up until high school. We never even had a chance to be close because we were living in different cities in our province. I only see him every summer and vacation.
My family and I moved to Laguna when I got to college. In the year 2010, I started to learn how to use Facebook because during that time all my classmates and friends are all using this social media platform.
I remember that time, I would search for my old friends and relatives back in my province to see if they are also on Facebook. And of course, I searched for my childhood crush. Look! I really take the time to do it. But, unfortunately, I didn’t see his profile on Facebook.
Fast forward, to the year 2017, I am already working for a big manufacturing company in Laguna. I had an accident early that year and I was advised by my doctor to rest for 4 months.
So, I just stayed home while managing a Facebook page for a fun run event of our church. While doing the social media thing for the fun run, I accidentally saw a familiar name in my newsfeed under “suggested people you may know corner”. And to my surprise, I saw the name of my childhood crush.
I send a friend request
That time, I immediately click his profile and see how he was doing nowadays. I was so happy that time that finally, I saw him. And, I believe my heart was so genuinely happy because I saw him serving God in his church in Bacolod.
I was so blessed seeing his photos leading worship and I was really happy to see and know that he is doing well and faithfully serving God.
There is no malice but only pure joy feeling, I felt that time. I then sent a friend request to him and about a couple of days, he accepted it.
After that, nothing really happened. Well, to be honest, nothing really happened from February 2017, the time I sent a friend request to him until August 2017 came.
August 14, 2017, to be exact, during my (lunch) break time at work. When suddenly I got a notification from messenger and when I saw it, may nag wave! And it was my childhood crush!
From that simple wave, our beautiful and unique love story began.
Our friendship started again, but this time, it was through online communication. Our communication and connection leveled up until “ligawan” stage, everything was pure online.
We got disconnected for some reason and we got the chance to be reconnected and reunited once again online. Yes, you heard it right, thru the online platform again. This has been our setup from 2017 to 2019.
Within that span of time, we were able to see each other in person once in a while. And on July 26, 2019, when I traveled from laguna to Bacolod, we finally made our relationship official as boyfriend/girlfriend.
After 2 days, we go back to our online world relationship, or let’s just say to our long-distance relationship. LDR is really challenging I guess to everyone, but praise God we made it.
October 13, 2019, we got engaged (in-person. Not online. Haha) but right after he proposed, the next day we got back to our online relationship set up.
The wedding
We started planning for our wedding (December 18, 2020 ang original plan) but the pandemic came in early year 2020. Nahirapan kami sa situation and set up dahil mahirap mag plan out and mag execute kung magkalayo kami but because of technology nagagawan naman ng paraan ang lahat ng preparations namin for the wedding.
We prayed hard for our wedding, we saved money for it and we really did our best just to make sure that our wedding will pus thru no matter what.
But indeed, many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is God’s plan that prevails. Our wedding was supposed to be December 18, 2020, a Christian garden wedding instead it became June 26, 2020, via zoom wedding. Check out my story about our zoom wedding here.
You see, technology and online social media platforms like Facebook or zoom have a say in our love story until our wedding. At all stages in our relationship technology was always there.
But nonetheless, technology makes our lives easier and faster. And it makes us connect with people we love. Without Facebook and the improvement of our technology today I maybe not be married to my childhood crush and my husband now.
We also proved that God is making way to each and every one of us. Our story is proof that with God, nothing is impossible. We are thankful for the technology but above all, we are thankful to God for using technology to connect the two of us together.
To God be the glory!
