Getting your kids to start their days with a healthy meal is not so difficult to do. All you need is a little bit of creativity and a plan.

To get you started, here are 15 healthy breakfasts for kids.

1. Chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie

1. Chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie

When you combine 3 kid-approved ingredients — chocolate, peanut butter and banana — in one yummy smoothie, you're sure to have a breakfast hit.

To make mealtime extra fun, serve your smoothies in colorful cups with cute straws. Smaller kids will especially love this!

2. Baked oatmeal

2. Baked oatmeal

Having trouble getting your kids to eat their oats? Change it up from the usual hot cereal to baked oatmeal.

Combine 3 cups quick-cooking oats, 1 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder in a bowl. This is your "dry mixture."

In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 whole eggs, 1 cup milk and ½ cup melted butter — this is your "wet mixture."

Combine the wet mixture with the dry mixture, then pour the batter into a 9” baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until it's set.

Serve on a plate with cream and fruit slices on top, or in a bowl with warm milk.

3. Frozen banana pops

3. Frozen banana pops

Are plain old bananas not exciting enough for your kids? Make them more interesting by turning them into frozen banana pops.

Stick a popsicle stick into a banana, spread peanut butter on it, then roll in granola. Lay the banana pops side by side on a baking sheet and freeze overnight.

For a special treat, you can use melted chocolate instead of peanut butter. If you can, go for the healthier dark chocolate.

4. Apple and nut butter sandwiches

Sandwiches make great healthy breakfasts or even lunchbox snacks.

For a sweet, crunchy and healthy sandwich idea, layer nut butter such as peanut or almond, and apple slices onto whole grain bread.

5. Crunchy cinnamon apple rings

Perfect for kids who love to snack, this healthy breakfast can be prepared ahead of time.

To make it, core an apple and cut it into very thin rings. Lay the apple rings side by side on a baking sheet, and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

Bake at 110 degrees for 1 hour, or until the edges curl up. Cool completely before serving.

6. Banana bread

6. Banana bread

Overripe bananas can be put to very good use with a good banana bread recipe.

You can make this ahead, slice up the loaf, and freeze. Just warm the slices in a toaster with a bit of butter when you want to serve the bread to the kids (or eat it yourself!).

7. Carrot muffins

Do you have trouble feeding your kids vegetables? Try including them in a muffin! These healthy carrot muffins are a great way to get more Vitamin A and fiber into their diets.

8. Fruit and yogurt smoothie

Combine frozen fruit slices with some yogurt in a blender, and you have an instant breakfast in a cup.

Your kids can even take these with them to drink in the car on the way to school, especially on days when you are pressed for time.

9. Egg muffins

9. Egg muffins

Similar to crustless quiche or mini frittatas, egg muffins are scrambled eggs with mix-ins that are baked in muffin cups. You can add anything from cheese to shredded spinach and ham to your eggs.

Once you've decided on what you want to include with the eggs, mix all the ingredients together.

Grease your muffin tin with cooking spray or butter, pour in your beaten egg mixture and bake until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

10. Yogurt on a stick

Martha Stewart’s yogurt on a stick is a fun and delicious frozen breakfast or snack idea for kids. You can add fruit and granola to the yogurt cup before freezing it, or you can just make plain yogurt pops.

11. Breakfast quesadillas

Quesadillas are such versatile breakfast meal ideas. Make savory versions with scrambled eggs, chives and cheese, or sweet options with butter and brown sugar.

12. Pop toast

12. Pop toast

Pop toast is a healthier homemade alternative to store-bought Pop Tarts.

To prepare, butter two slices of whole wheat bread (with the crusts removed). Spread fruit preserves onto one slice, leaving a ½” border around the edges.

Place the other slice of bread, butter side down, onto the bread with jam, and press the edges together with a fork. Toast for a few minutes before eating.

13. French toast with fruits

Make French toast extra healthy by serving it with sweet fruit instead of the usual syrup. You can even cut the bread up into squares and skewer them with fruits for an extra fun kiddie breakfast.

14. Egg in a hole
